It’s a grey day here in Manchester, it’s been hurling down with rain for most of the weekend, my arthritic joints are aching and I’m getting over a horrible cold so I absolutely shattered (the bone sapping tiredness is back). BUT inside I’m feeling positive and ‘enjoy today’ is my mantra. I’ve made some significant changes over the last few months – a new adventure is starting.
As ever, my awesome husband is 100% supportive and helps me every day, as do my friends and family.
#OneHourOutside
I did what I usually do to help myself feel a bit better I went outside to have a look what was flowering, take some photographs and see the state of the garden after a very wet and windy weekend. Taking photographs of flowers up close means you have to REALLY look at them. I’ve written before about how my garden and gardening help me to be mindful. Even, if you don’t have any outside space at your home, sit or walk in a park for an hour. Nature is everywhere even in very urban areas. I wrote more about how my garden helps me with my wellbeing.
I’ve written a few times about #onehouroutside We are very lucky as there are many lovely walks around Monton where we live. Here’s a three-mile favourite:
Walking is a micro action – a small change, done regularly which makes a difference to your life. It seems as if it’s something about this time of year, something about being ‘back at school’ feeling.
Have you made a change recently?

pelargonium, petunia and campion in a white jug
So for my In a Vase on Monday, I picked some bright flowers from the garden – I could see them from inside when it was pouring with rain at the weekend.
In my Jug on Monday
- pink, white, red and pink edged pelargonium
- shocking pink campion – my mum gave me this plant from her garden
- bright pink petunia
All have appeared in the vases before pelargonium, petunia, campion
The milk jug is used every weekend for breakfast – no bottles on the table for us. We also use the best china every day – not just for special occasions.
I have the candle in the bathroom where I can see it every day (it’s bergamot and black pepper) it reminds me to be in the moment, be mindful, to enjoy what’s happening right now – not to wish time away until the next big thing (holiday, birthday, Christmas, whatever). I have ‘enjoy today’ as a print too. It appeared:

From above – Pelargonium, petunia and campion
As usual, I am joining in with Cathy from Rambling in the Garden – the idea is to pick plants from around your garden or locality, every Monday and put them in a ‘vase’. People use all sorts of things for vases, including tin cans, kitchen equipment, bottles, jugs and hands. This week she has some stunning dahlias and a white jug looking similar to mine. Gardeners post photos from around the world, so even in the depths of winter here – there’s sunshine and flowers.
Even in the darkest times, these flowers from around the world have lifted my mood, and connected with my inner strength. I hope you enjoy today’s flowers too.
Focus on Enjoy Today
Look deeper thinks aren’t always what they seem – the 2nd smaller jug has a candle within it 🙂 look deeper within yourself and happiness is there… a small spark even when things around seem grim.
Change
I’ve decided to go on a pottery course – I’ve decided to learn something new each month. I’ve paid up front for yoga classes which will mean I’ll go. Just Do It – and try not to let fear hold you back.
One of the changes I’ve made is the move to my own web site address. This means I can I have much more autonomy what I can do with my blog and much more room for photos of flowers – If you’d like to follow my blog – fill in the form on the right. My WordPress dot com followers should have moved over too, but if I’m not in the reader let me know via social media or email (Contact Me)
*****
These quotes resonated with me – in the week of World Suicide Prevention Day and the anniversary of 9/11. I’m trying to be the light and listen to my inner voice, be strong and just do it – YOU can too.
“In the midst of darkness, light persists.” – Mahatma Gandhi
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Buddha

Don’t forget to enjoy today and try to get outside for an hour or so.
Do you do micro actions? Have you made a change recently? how are you supporting your inner light?
Carpe Diem,
love Bec xx xx

11/09/2018 at 11:54 amI love the idea of bringing flowers in from the garden. At the moment none are in bloom for me but when they are I’ll bring them in. And I made a change recently by starting lessons to get to grips with a new language.

11/09/2018 at 5:24 pmWhat a great outlook you’ve taken on. It’s so important to look for the positive. I try get out everyday to do something. Being stuck inside drains you. Best of luck with the pottery and yoga!!

11/09/2018 at 6:15 pmI’m gradually getting back to my dancing (and will do more when I can free up my Thursday evenings!). I feel so much better after I’ve been dancing (even if my feet ache, and even after doing a ‘backwards’ swan dive last night!).
Hope you feel better soon. The “in a vase” photos are always so cheering.

11/09/2018 at 8:15 pmI like the concept of ‘micro actions’ – one step forward is always the start of a journey. Thanks for sharing your micro actions, Bec – and do feedback on the process of changing to your own website as I have considered it too. I love the contrast of the pink against your pure white jug – so simple, yet so effective. I was also pleased to read how much pleasure IAVOM brings you – it makes it all worth while..

12/09/2018 at 11:49 pmThat’s a very nice view to have! We have a big communal shared garden, but we live on the third floor so don’t make it down there as often as we should.

13/09/2018 at 1:16 amI love this idea, and it’s something I’d love to do. We live in an apartment, and our neighbourhood has great plant, flower, and community gardening initiatives, but I don’t think I can get away with picking them! But it’s enough for me to take time to walk through the community gardens and appreciate it all. Congrats on going self-hosted by the way!
